Club Connective is working with a well‑established, growing manufacturing and distribution business supplying specialist products into highly regulated sectors. The business is seeking an Assistant Accountant to support its finance operations and contribute to continued growth and operational excellence.
This is a hands‑on role with broad exposure across financial reporting, credit control, and management accounting, reporting directly to the Management Accountant.
  
Role Purpose
As Assistant Accountant, you will support accurate financial reporting, maintain strong financial controls, and deliver high‑quality analysis to aid business decision‑making.
With the planned departure of a part‑time Credit Controller, this role will also assume responsibility for the credit control function (approximately 1–2 days per week).
  
Key Responsibilities Financial Reporting & Control

  • Support month‑end and year‑end close processes, ensuring timely and accurate P&L and balance sheet reporting.
  • Complete bank reconciliations and supplier statement reconciliations (monthly for key suppliers, quarterly for others).
  • Assist with balance sheet, intercompany, and other reconciliations.
  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards (UK GAAP / IFRS), tax legislation, and group reporting requirements.
  • Maintain strong internal controls, financial policies, and audit readiness.

Credit Control & Working Capital

  • Assist with responsibility for the credit control function.
  • Manage the relationship with the external factoring provider, including cash drawdowns, dispute resolution, and credit limit management.
  • Monitor and optimise working capital across inventory, receivables, and payables.
  • Assist with cash‑flow forecasting and liaise with banks and finance partners as required.

Financial Planning, Analysis & Strategy

  • Assist in producing high‑quality financial analysis to support operational and commercial decision‑making (cost control, margin improvement, investment appraisal, capex).
  • Assist with preparation of budgets, forecasts, and business plans, monitoring performance and identifying risks and opportunities.

Leadership & Process Improvement

  • Assist in leading, developing, and mentoring members of the finance team.
  • Drive process improvements across the finance function, including system enhancements and automation.
  • Assist with a planned finance system migration to Sage Business Cloud within the next 6–12 months.
  • Work closely with sales, purchasing, operations, and quality teams to provide financial insight and support.
  • Provide cover across all areas of the finance department during periods of absence.

Person Specification Qualifications & Experience

  • AAT Level 4 or part‑qualified CIMA.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience, ideally within a medium‑sized manufacturing or distribution environment.
  • Strong experience producing management accounts, budgets, forecasts, and financial analysis.
  • Sage Line 50 experience strongly preferred.
  • Proven experience with cash flow management, working capital, and credit control.
  • Demonstrated track record of driving process improvements.
  • Strong Excel skills, including pivot tables, lookups, and analytical tools.
  • Experience with ERP or finance systems; system implementation or upgrade experience desirable.
