Assistant Accountant – Tamworth
Location: Tamworth, Staffordshire (Office-Based)
Salary: £35,000 – £38,000 per annum
Hours: 37.5 hours per week

About the Company
We are recruiting on behalf of a well-established specialist supplier serving highly regulated industries including automotive, medical, and defence. Due to continued growth, our client is seeking an experienced Assistant Accountant to join their finance team at their Tamworth headquarters.

The Role
Reporting to the Management Accountant, you will play a key role in supporting the finance function, ensuring accurate financial reporting, robust controls, and insightful analysis to support business decision-making.
The successful candidate will have experience within a fast-paced finance environment and be confident supporting management accounts, forecasting, credit control, cash flow management, and process improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & Control
- Support month-end and year-end close processes.
- Assist with the preparation of accurate management accounts, P&L reports, and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Complete bank reconciliations and supplier statement reconciliations.
- Support intercompany and general ledger reconciliations.
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards, tax regulations, and internal controls.
- Assist with audit preparation and financial reporting requirements.
Credit Control & Working Capital
- Support the credit control function and aged debt management.
- Manage relationships with finance and factoring providers.
- Assist with cash flow forecasting and working capital management.
- Monitor receivables, payables, and inventory to improve cash performance.
Financial Planning & Analysis
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and business planning activities.
- Produce meaningful financial analysis to support operational and commercial decisions.
- Help identify opportunities for cost control, margin improvement, and business growth.
- Monitor business performance and highlight key risks and opportunities.
Process Improvement
- Support finance process improvements and system enhancements.
- Assist with the planned migration to Sage Business Cloud.
- Work closely with operational departments to improve financial visibility and reporting.
- Provide support across all finance functions when required.
What We’re Looking For
Essential
- AAT Level 4 qualified or Part-Qualified CIMA.
- Minimum 5 years’ finance experience, ideally within manufacturing, distribution, engineering, or a similar environment.
- Experience supporting management accounts and month-end processes.
- Strong understanding of credit control, cash flow, and working capital management.
- Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables, lookup functions, and financial analysis.
- Excellent organisational and communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving ability.
Desirable
- Sage Line 50 experience.
- Experience with ERP systems and finance software.
- Exposure to system implementation or migration projects.
- Experience supporting budgeting and forecasting processes.
