Trainee Roofing Estimator
 
Location: Alcester, Warwickshire
Salary: £26,000 – £30,000 DOE

We are recruiting on behalf of an established roofing contractor based in Warwickshire who is looking for a Trainee Roofing Estimator to join and develop within their existing team.
  
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with experience or knowledge of the roofing or construction industry who wants to develop a long-term career within estimating.
  
Previous experience as a Roofing Estimator is not essential.
We are particularly interested in speaking with experienced roofers, roofing supervisors, construction professionals or junior commercial candidates who already understand the industry and would like to develop their knowledge within an office-based estimating and commercial role.
  
You will receive support and training from experienced members of the team, initially assisting with quotations and project pricing before gradually progressing to managing your own estimates and projects.
 
  
The Role
As a Trainee Roofing Estimator, you will learn how to accurately scope and price roofing projects from initial enquiry through to quotation and project handover.
  
Your responsibilities will develop as you gain experience and will include:

• Assisting with the preparation of roofing quotations and estimates
• Reviewing drawings, specifications and tender information
• Carrying out material and quantity take-offs
• Supporting and attending site surveys
• Obtaining prices from suppliers and subcontractors
• Assessing material, labour, plant and subcontractor costs
• Assisting experienced team members with larger tenders and projects
• Preparing pricing schedules and supporting tender documentation
• Maintaining accurate estimating and pricing records
• Liaising with suppliers, subcontractors, clients and internal teams
• Developing your understanding of different roofing systems and installation methods
• Supporting project handovers following successful quotations
• Progressively taking responsibility for your own smaller quotations and projects

• Reading drawings and specifications
• Labour and material pricing
• Supplier and subcontractor enquiries

• Cost planning and project margins
• Commercial awareness
• Estimating systems and Microsoft Excel
• Project handover processes

As your knowledge and confidence develop, you will gradually progress to working independently on larger and more complex roofing projects.
 
  
What We’re Looking For
 
Ideally, you’ll have:

• Previous experience or knowledge within roofing, construction or a related environment
• A genuine interest in developing a career in estimating
• Good numerical skills and confidence working with figures
• Strong attention to detail
• Good organisational and time-management skills
• Confident communication skills
• Basic to intermediate Microsoft Excel skills
• Ability to work independently while learning from experienced colleagues
• Full UK Driving Licence
